Eugene Railyard Contamination - Toxic Metals

Toxic metal contamination has also been discovered in the soil at the railroad yard. Arsenic and Chromium both occur in concentrations that endanger yard workers and contribute to local air pollution. The two metals are concerns due to their cancer causing properties. While the levels present are sometimes only slightly above background levels, that doesn’t make them insignificant. Natural arsenic poisoning is a serious concern in Oregon and shouldn't be dismissed.

A dozen other toxic metals have been found at elevated levels at the Eugene site as well.
