Eugene Railyard - Crawl Space Testing

If your home has not been tested, getting the DEQ or Union Pacific Railroad to do it is an uphill, if not impossible, battle. Some people have chosen to pursue testing on their own.

Paying to have your home tested is an option, but you should be aware of a couple caveats:

  1. This type of testing is very expensive - thousands of dollars.
  2. If you hope to use the information to sway the DEQ or other government agencies, it may hold no weight.  They have specific standards and rules, so you may want to talk to them before spending your money if that’s your goal.  If you’re considering legal action, then you should talk to a knowledgeable lawyer.

The DEQ uses a company called Test America out of Portland.  The person to talk to is Daryll Auvil (513-906-9261). You will need to specify you want to use the “EPA method TO-15-SIM” and that you’re testing for “TCE and PCE.”  If you have any other questions, feel free to contact OTA or Greg Aitken at the DEQ (541-687-7361).
