Near School Spray Maps and Slides

Oregon Toxics Alliance and Forestland Dwellers are working together to provide maps of herbicide applications within one mile of public schools in Lane County.

Map Key

  • The red dot denotes the school location.
  • The red circle around the school is a one-mile marker, so that you can get a sense of the distances.

Other Map Notes

  • Each map represents data accumulated over 16 years with each year as a diffferent color. (If you want a map from a specific year, refer to the slideshows below).
  • The maps have a 1/16 mile margin of error.
  • Pesticide spray can drift more than one mile, and has been detected as far as five miles (in small amounts).
  • We feel that any spray operation within one mile could pose a danger to students because of drift and volatilization.
  • It is not always possible to get data on what pesticides were used or in what concentration.
  • The data reflects forestry herbicide spray ONLY. No agriculture data is available because Oregon law doesn’t allow private citizens to have access to agricultural pesticide spray records.
  • The maps were created by Jan Wroncy and Gary Hale who have been mapping this data for many years.  Original hand-drawn maps were made by Lynn Bowers.

Slide Shows

The following slide shows contain maps for each year over the last 16 years, a map with all 16 years accumulated, and various photos taken from around the spray sites.

Note: The slide shows are approximately 10MB, so they make take awhile to download.
